The PDA prohibits discrimination against pregnant women in all areas of employment, including hiring, firing, seniority rights, leave, transfers, health insurance, and receipt of fringe benefits. They may not be asked to undergo any special tests to prove their ability to work. Protection offered by the Act is not restricted to pregnant employees. It extends to employees who undergo abortion and also employees who undergo infertility treatments to become pregnant.
